I couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was about this… And then I got it. The filled-in circle without a stem can’t be a whole note (they’re empty) or a quarter note (they have a stem). I think that’s not a note at all. I think it’s the eye of a musician peeking into the room, wondering if he can join the jam session.
I must admit that I made a mistake with those notes. It shows you I don’t know how to read music. Fortunately, I can play ok anyway. 🙂
I remembered you saying that you taught yourself guitar by ear. That explains that — although I know a few people who can read music like whiz kids, and can’t improvise a thing.
My sister plays classical guitar and reads music well. She came for a visit and I was excited about us playing together. Well, it didn’t turn out as I hoped. She couldn’t improvise. I could only play along with her if I knew the tune. It was disappointing.
